School holidays...

Gotta love them. All the little gothlings were out in force in town today. Easy to spot the insta-goth kiddies tho (bless their wee emo hearts) with the "retro" t-shirt with some random image printed in red on it and the diamante skull earings. Damn I feel old! Back in my day... <visualise crone with walking stick here>

<sigh> I think I need to get out more. Pretending to be grown up and responsible all day at work must finally be getting to me. The highlight of my day today was finding a new book shop that had a massive Sci Fi section! At least I don't have to hide my dark side quite so much a work - thank goodness our national colour is black!

Everyday I find a new bookshop is a good day for me. Or any day I can just go in one and inhale that sweet intoxicating aroma of literature. Ahhh.

We don't have too many of the little emos around here, but we have a lot of preppy rednecks. Hmm. Would you like to trade?

I love second hand bookshops best - you never know what treasure you are going to find tucked away in back corner. There are heaps in the wee town where my parents live. Just about every time we go visit we do a tour of all the bookshops. The joy of second hand book stores is walking out with a half dozen books for the same price as one new one!

Heck no! However, most of the emos kiddies we get are fairly well off and I'm quite sure mummy and daddy have paid for their clothes, hair cut, hair colour, etc. ;-)

yes i must admit i'm feeling the oldness when i look at at kids in skinny jeans with emo hair.

I think the real sign of oldness when you realize one day that you think music was better 10-15 years ago. lol Oh, that and the increasing army of grey hairs.

It's scary cause I hear some of the music that's out now and think to myself "It just keeps getting worse" and then I think I sound like my parents and it scares me and makes me cry. But I love my old music, not the gray hairs though.

        Good morning all!
I live in Gowanda, NY a small "farming" community with a population of 2500 & there are a lot of little goth kids around. We also have what I use to call in high school, "skate-rats" they like to skateboard all over town and jump off all the curbs. I grew up in the the 80's, was preppy, & valley girl like! LOL!! There is a shop in the mall that I call the goth-shop and I bought this beautiful corset and a fishnet shirt with the sleeves that have holes for your fingers. Do you know what I'm talking about? It's for my next costume! Well, I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays!!

I have to wonder if I'll ever get to that "it just keeps getting worse". After all, it was my dad that introduced me to modern music like Nine Inch Nails and Tool when I was in high school. He listens to a lot of modern stuff. The way I see it, my tastes keep adapting and expanding by the day. Maybe I'll be lucky and never hit that wall of music just seeming to get worse and worse.

However, what DOES make me feel old is all the goth kids on the military base I'm on. They're all someone's kids! They're all ten to fifteen years younger than me! I know I'm not old but I certainly feel like it where I'm living!

This is what I'm talking about with the keeps getting worse. Hilary Duff and other such nonsense/ Tool, NIN and others were around back in my day and are and always will be awesome. There is some good music out there now, but it seems like it has taken a turn down crappy lane for some reason. I'm pretty sure it's a cycle. Everything has a cycle to it and eventually there will be some kickass bands coming back around. But now I can't even turn the radio on without it giving me a headache. Then I have to go back to the Cure or one of my other comfort bands to stop my head from spinning.
