I love love LOVE Tempest's vintage hair and makeup. Darling, Gothmother, how do you do it? (or anyone else who have been successful with this look)

There's a few tutorials around on the web, but for me personally, I did a lot of looking at old photos and postcards. The main focus is on the eyes, brows, and lips. Resist the temptation to use dark shadow all around your eye. I use pencil and liquid liner for the lower lid, but don't smoke it out too far, just enough to define the eye. I use dark shadow on the top lid, closest to the eye, and depending on what I'm wearing, use accent colors and lighter cream tones (plus glitter) for the top. I make sure to use mascara (at the end), but lightly and cleanly - real 1920's didn't have huge bushy lashes. Brows are natural, slightly refined.

For the lips, I use a little foundation, draw a bow shape with liner, and fill in, dash of glitter :)

    Powder lightly as needed :)

Hair is the ultimate struggle between good and evil, but mainly, I've done a lot of practicing with finger waves and varying amounts of gel and pressure. I rely on my natural New Jersey-Philly Italian roots for that expertise ;)

Hee..I was wondering if you'd tried fingerwaves before. Is your hair just too unruly for them? They are REALLY hard to do on yourself.

I had to PRACTICE fingerwaves in beauty school, back in the dark ages of the '80s;)

OMG.... pin curls! My mother was a hair dresser and when I was growing up (in the 80's) there were some ladies who would wear that style on a daily basis. I can't tell you how many times I sat and watched my mom wrap hair around her finger then pin it in place! Thick hair 'clippy' pins work best on wet pin curls. So cool!

Oh Dear Gods... how do you have the patience for this stuff? I'm sticking to my weird scientist/cult leader look. The eye make up is cool though, I can get into make-up. Hair is another story, especially if involves words like "patience" and "experimentation" to accomplish. All praises be unto ye who can do James Bond parking tricks with your hair. I know when I've been out matched. (Curses! Foiled Again! But I'll get you next time!)

    Muah!

I wouldn't shy away from wigs for the hair... I have very unruly hair and I can't get through practice without it frizzing up and looking crazy. So use alot of fake hair for my performances. At this point I am really getting ready to look around for one a 1920's style wig. I should be able to find one pretty cheap. I'll post here if I see something online but you can look around in your area for those little wig and hair shops. If you are in Lexington, KY there is Hair Masters and Hair Gold (little Asian run shops but they have some great stuff and they are very reasonably priced). Take a look around... every city has at least one of these shops!
