From San Francisco, Gothic goddess Ariellah comes to Toronto for her first workshops and gala performance.

Ariellah's began studying belly dance with Janine Ryle, who studied with San Francisco belly dance institution Hahbi'Ru. Janine encouraged Ariellah to learn from as many sources as possible so Ariellah began studying with Rachel in early 2002 and became a founding member of Rachel’s Indigo Belly Dance Company in 2003.

Ariellah is currently busy teaching, performing and practicing. In 2004, Ariellah won first place in the Star Fusion category of Sirens In Sanity’s belly dance competition, Enchanted Camelot, held in Benecia, CA. Most recently Ariellah was featured in the first of its kind, Gothic Belly Dance DVD. Released in spring 2006.

Ariellah’s style reflects her personal interpretation of tribal fusion belly dance, which blends the darker side of traditional Middle Eastern, American Tribal Style and cabaret belly dance with a modern, very dark flavour, that is uniquely her own. Her style emanates from the passion, joy and contentment that belly dance has brought to her life, allowing her to fully express herself in a unique and beautiful way.

Ariellah can be seen performing on Gothic Bellydance DVD, Bellydance Underworld dvd as well as on her instructional dvd Contemporary Bellydance & Yoga

The Darker Side of Drilling
In this workshop, Ariellah will drill and discuss chest and hip isolations, pops, locks and snake-like gothic belly dance arm movements, incorporating a dramatic darker side to their dance. Ariellah will teach a short choreography, which will incorporate these techniques. Reinforcing fundamentals will bring strength and fluidity to the student’s movements and elevate their dance.

Expressive Arms
Learn the secrets to Ariellah’s expressive arms. This workshop is devoted to strengthening and beautifying the belly dancers arm work. Stretching, strengthening and drilling techniques will be used to build a repertoire of arm movements. Arms and hands are key to expressing one’s music and love of dance. Students will be encouraged to stylize their own arm movements after drilling the basics. Some exercises are completed in groups to encourage use of arms and personal stylization of arms.
