Fave Classic GBD music ?

topic posted Fri, March 28, 2008 - 11:46 AM by  Aziyade
I wanna make a cd compilation (or more than one) of "classic" GBD music. You know the kind -- music you loved so much you just HAD to dance to it, or music somebody else used that you just loved, or music that you've always wanted to dance to because it either sounded so darn cool or it just moved you so darn much!

If you were making a Best of GBD Music Cd, what would yours have on it? Thanx for playing. :P

Definitely some Siouxsie and the Banshees, though the song choices are endless. Some of my favorites: Arabian Nights, Voodoo Dolly, Face to Face, Dazzle, Kiss Them For Me...

Here's what I've got on my iTunes "Bellydance" playlist (it's not finished yet)... Some of the songs are "more gothic" than others (but as I feel I'm a member of the goth community anything I dance to, by default, is goth):

    Apollo 440 - I Feel You
Assemblage 23 - Let Me Be Your Armor, Naked, House on Fire
    Delerium - Silence
Diva Destruction - The Broken Ones
Faith and the Muse - Cantus
Fiona Apple - Sleep to Dream
ICP - Let's Go All the Way
    Kidney thieves - Crazy
    Loreena McKennitt - Marco Polo
Marilyn Manson - Personal Jesus, This is Halloween, Tainted Love, Beautiful People
Nick Cave - Red Right Hand
    Niyaz - Golzar
Pentaphobe - Kitten Pig, I Cash Radii
    Poe - Hello, Angry Johnny
    Prince - 7, Kiss
Project Pitchfork - Mine (Beast of Prey)
    Rasputina - Secret Message
She Wants Revenge - Kidnap the Sandy Claws
Siouxsie & the Banshees - Peek-a-boo, Carousel, Ornaments of Gold, Kiss Them For Me, Face to Face
The Smiths - How Soon is Now
    Squirell Nut Zippers - Hell
Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut
Switchblade Symphony - Clown, Dollhouse, Sweet (Apoptygma Berzerk remix)
Taco - Puttin on the Ritz

I have made a couple of such 'Best of' compilations. Here are some of the songs I put on them:

    Godsmack - Voodoo, Serenity
    The Cure - Lullaby
Collide - Razor Sharp, Frozen (actually most of their songs dance very well)
    Azam Ali - Spring Arrives
Depeche Mode - Dream On, In Your Room (and many more)
Jolie Holland - Old Fashioned Morphine
The Crystal Method - Starting over, Trip Like I Do (w/ Filter)
Lisa Hall - Is This Real
Massive Attack - Angel, Teardrop, Dissolved Girl
    Prodigy - Breathe, Firestarter
Juno Reactor - God is God
Concrete Blonde - Bloodletting (the Vampire Song)
    Garbage - #1 Crush
    Evanescence - Snow White Queen
Nine Inch Nails - Zero Sum, 19 Ghosts III, 16 Ghosts II
    Chester Bennington - System
Deftones - Change (pretty much anything from the Queen of the Damned soundtrack)
The Tea Party - Walking Wounded, Sister Awake, Psychopomp, Angels
Linkin Park - A Cure for the Itch
Smashing Pumpkins - Ava Adore, Eye, The Beginning is the End
Tori Amos - Caught a Light Sneeze

And many others that have already been posted.

Awesome topic, btw. I have been wanting to expand my GBD library.

I just started delving into GBD officially but have been fascinated with it since I started dancing... I've been on the hunt to... perfectly timed. I have the damnest time finding music with an edge... they look at my blankly when I walk in and say 'The Retrosic' damnnit how come you don't know this... or anything like it!

Grumbe grumble for the tame populous who wants the foo fighters all the time!

      My list is small...
      The Retrosic
      Evanescance
      Godsmack
      Drowning Pool (occasionally)
      Disturbed (occasionaly)
      Within Temptation
      Nightwish
      M. Manson
      Lacuna Coil
      Linkin park on occasion

yeah I try to make a pass for some of them as far as dancing because I love the music but it can be a real stretch to actually make it work. So I generally make up practice sessions with it rolling... try to release from the drilling stuff and really just dance. =) yeah for gothic music that's dancable

I have to say thanks to all of you for posting these artists/songs. For a gothling like myself I often don't know where to start with music. I've been into Depeche Mode since the 80's but didn't follow much else that could be considered goth/synthpop/ebm until just recently. Now I'm like a kid in a candy store...a dark, spooky one.

Ooh, I've always wanted to dance to Hunter's Kiss! Though I'd be afraid of crying on stage for the poor dead deer...

I've always looked at "Hunter's Kiss" as an allegory for man's pursuit of a woman; it's a song to me that has two meanings.

Last time I saw Rasputina play, I was thrilled they included this song in the lineup. It's my favorite.

Hmmm, I don't consider myself a gothis bellydancer per se, but I did just perform to Zombie Girl "Funeral Pyre," Evanescence (sp?) "Haunted," "Room 47" Unknown Artist, and The Shroud "Black."

I'm not sure where Fabian fits in tho ;-P
