I'm thinking of starting a troupe here in Augusta, Georgia. I've been a member of the goth scene here for some time and have been bellydancing for a few years. My main problem is, all of the dancers I want to work with....I'm unsure if I can get the right feel from them. Good grief that sounds stuck up. But I want a playful/serious mix...can I just import Alicia from Bellycraft here?

Any suggestions on how to work through this?

Also, please look at DarkAugusta.net...my husband runs this site and occasionally posts podcasts of SE djs....

What do you mean about feel? Do you mean the right type of attitude about dance, their personal attitudes, or if they can accomplish a type of feeling when dancing? Like if you wanted to portray extreme sadness with a dance piece and you don't know if they can dance more emotionally to exude that said feeling...

I mean their emotiveness in dance. I am trying to get dancers in my area that can dance to different types of music, while staying in the darker genre. I've seen too many "goth" dancers who can only portray the extremely somber and serious side of goth, and I want to stay away from ONLY danceing one way.

Is this clear at all, I am afraid I'm not conveying my point very effectively....

Oh no its fine. :-) I get ya! I would say look for the people you would like to have in your troupe and maybe ask them about their style of dance; you can never ask too many questions when wanting to add someone to a troupe. As well, you can see those whom you want to have in your troupe dance or even ask them if they would be interested in joining and maybe have them audition to several different types of songs, so that way you may get a better idea on how they react (emotionally) and dance (of course ;-p) to music. I know it may seem kind of forward in a way, but the best troupes are often formed with auditions. Put it this way: you know what you want and if they audition maybe you'll see it in some of them rather than having to speculate and then find out later that it doesn't work.

        Hope that helps. :-)
