So now I have my costume, except for stripy tights and poss and additional feather for my hat, music is chosen and mixed. I even finally got a juggler that responded to my email (stil to get pricing though).

But now I am struggling to choreograph the piece. All the stuff I seem to have come up with doesnt seem to move around a lot and doesnt feel very macabre. Grrr

Rather than trying to choreograph piece by piece, just get up and dance to your music and play with it, listen to it, consider what story it is trying to tell. Find the places that inspire you most, what moves from come it, and take note of those. Everything doesn't have to be choreographed to death. :)

Yarp Tempest is right. When I like a song and know I wanna dance to I just....well do it. haha. Usually if I liked a move my body somehow integrates it into my memory and I'll keep dancing some of the same movements that I liked. Then, I only have to end up choreographing small bits in the middle instead of the whole thing. :-)

(Disclaimer: this post is half serious). I knew a dancer who got stuck on coreography once. She got so frustrated, she wrote a bunch of movements and combos on index cards, tossed them in a hat and then pulled them out one by one. ...I suppose it could work?

Kami Liddle does something like that. She writes down every move that she can think of that she can do on individual peices of paper, pulls two out at a time the sees if she can put them together.

Doing a lot better on my choreo now I need to subtitute a couple of moves that didnt work when I tried em and then I discovered a few gaps I need to fill but about 3/4 there now

Sometimes, I am just in a state of "duh" on coreography. I sit there and nothing comes into my head. Other times, I feel the music and it comes to me. Having back ups for it, watching other dancers and asking for help is always a good way to get un-stuck.

Now then, when do we see the video of your choreographed performance? :P

We're there with you...I don't have too much of a hard time figuring out a dance on my own b/c i improv 1/2 of it, at least....but, that being said, I've also listened to the song so many times i know it by heart....MP3 plugged in constantly...kids complaining, "Not THAT song still!" hubby about ready to tear his hair out. However, my friend and I are dancing together for Halloween, and it's harder to actually choreograph...need to add in bits that both people can do, etc. Just listen, listen listen and dance...everywhere...lol.

Gleo : depends on my tempremental Flip camera lol. Hoepfully as soon as poss after the event if it works. Decon - me too I improv'd more than half my last solo but the songs I am using this time have a real storytelling feel to em so I wanted to make sure things fit with the narrtative. I do listen to in on my mp3 constanly luckily I have no kids or hubby to bug with the repetition. lol
